About the author
Frank van Dongen is evolutionary biologist and author of the four-part novel Discovery of Man. Three years after the publication of the Thousand Islands Experiment, part 1 of Discovery of Man, the popularity of the novels continues to grow. Many readers, young and old, say that their view of society and our future has changed after reading Discovery of Man, that they are going to organize their lives
differently, and spend less time on social media and gaming.
I started writing the novel at the end of 2013. The reason was the realization that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) is going to fundamentally change our lives. In a thought experiment I wanted to investigate what the next two hundred years might look like if we continue to strive for eternal technological and economic
growth, if our population and consumption continue to increase, if we become increasingly dependent on online technology and AI.

Short Synopsis of Series
Genetically engineered prodigy Jack Newman realises that humanity has little time left and creates a mentally fused quadruplet with almost limitless thinking power and creativity. Governments and mega-corporations see this AI as a threat and force Jack to work on things other than what he would like to. Jack's twin brother Redmond, whose life he occasionally glimpses, is stranded in the Thousand Islands experiment. On a distant world, he fights against the Feind, a hostile civilisation that is preparing to invade Earth. An interstellar space fleet could still save humanity, but the powerful of Earth are more interested in an immortality programme for the elite. What can Jack still do to save humanity?
